PCL wins C$856.8 million fixed-price deal to double the size of Ontario's Bowmanville Hospital

PCL Investments leads the project and PCL Constructors Canada is the design-builder, with Diamond Schmitt Architects and Cumulus Architects as the design team and TD Securities as financial adviser, ReNew Canada reported. PCL made the shortlist after a qualification round that opened in August 2024, then competed in the proposal stage, according to Daily Commercial News.

When finished, the hospital will be over twice its current size. According to Lakeridge Health, as reported by the Clarington Post, it adds private patient rooms, outpatient clinics for people who go home the same day, a haemodialysis centre, a rooftop helipad and Level 3 critical care, the top tier of care for the sickest and most badly injured patients.

PCL is to start mobilizing on site this fall. Major construction begins early in 2027, and completion is targeted for 2030. The hospital will remain open throughout, the Clarington Post reported. The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation's We Care, We Can campaign is raising the local share of the project cost plus all of the equipment, foundation CEO Maria Petri said.
