Sunway Construction wins RM1.74 billion hyperscale data center job, its seventh this year

Subsidiary Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd signed the build-only deal on Nov. 5, the group said in a Bursa Malaysia filing. EdgeProp put the exact value at RM1.739 billion. The scope takes the building from core and shell through MEP fit-out, plus campus infrastructure, testing and commissioning. The schedule runs from the last quarter of 2026 to the last quarter of 2028.

The award brings new orders since January to RM9.8 billion and lifts the outstanding order book to RM13.4 billion, The Edge Malaysia reported. A day earlier the company announced a RM920.8 million (about US$227 million) award for extra MEP fit-out at a data center already under construction in Johor, for an unnamed technology company based in the US, W.Media reported. That work is due by the first quarter of 2028.

Sunway Construction listed swings in material prices among the risks on the Serendah job. Research house CGS International has urged the contractor to branch out into public infrastructure, industrial projects and chip plants, EdgeProp reported, warning that data center orders may be harder to replace once worldwide AI budgets cool. By CGS's count, data centers make up 70% of Sunway Construction's RM13 billion tender book, spread across six clients.
