Robertson Contractors wins $32.9 million job to build U.S. 67 to the Arkansas line as future I-57
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has picked Robertson Contractors Inc. for a $32.9 million job to grade, pave and build bridges on roughly 3 miles of new four-lane U.S. 67 between County Road 270 and the Arkansas line in Butler County, part of the future Interstate 57.
The award is phase four of MoDOT's work to bring U.S. 67 in Butler County up to interstate standard as future I-57, KFVS12 reported. The commission's list describes the work as grading, paving and bridges along Route 67, running south from County Road 270 to the state line. That is a stretch of about 3 miles.
District Engineer Tim Pickett told KFVS12 that construction could start as early as January and take about two years. The new lanes run on a new alignment, so the existing highway stays open while crews work, and he expects drivers to see little disruption.
The contract leaves a hole in the corridor. Pickett said phase three still has no construction funding, though MoDOT will keep buying right of way there so it can move once money arrives. He put the remaining gap at about 4.5 miles.
In the same round of awards, the commission gave The International Rigging Group LLC $721,623 to paint three bridges, two in Butler County that cross Route 60 and one in Dunklin County. The reports did not give the number of bidders, the engineer's estimate or how many bridges the U.S. 67 job includes.
Why it matters: Work could start in January on a two-year schedule, so subs and suppliers in southeast Missouri and northeast Arkansas can price grading, paving and bridge packages with Robertson now. Phase three is the next U.S. 67 job to watch once Missouri finds the money.
